About

A simple full blood count offers a unique window into the human body and haematologists can provide their colleagues with a powerful additional perspective in many clinical situations. Of course, blood cells themselves can stop working properly and I specialise in the treatment of patients with disorders of the blood and bone marrow. I have particular interests in adult lymphoma and in advanced diagnostic haematology. I am also a basic scientist with an active research program in stem cell biology, studying normal bone marrow function and how this goes wrong in blood cancers. Bringing new insights from the laboratory bench to the bedside ensures that patients at The Physicians’ Clinic will always have access to the most innovative medical thinking and technology.

Medical training

Dr Rajeev Gupta received his medical education at Leeds University, graduating in 1990. After junior hospital appointments in London, he worked at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research where he gained his PhD in Developmental Biology.

He completed higher specialist training in Haematology at the Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospitals, subsequently undertaking post-doctoral research in stem cell and leukaemia biology at the Chester Beatty Laboratories, London and at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford.

In 2003 Dr Gupta was appointed as a Consultant Haematologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford where he specialised in adult lymphoma medicine. He joined the University College London Cancer Institute as a Senior Lecturer in Haematology in 2011.
