Medical interests: Asthma, COPD, Emphysema, Lung Infections, Bronchiectasis, Sarcoidosis and Lung Fibrosis

Dr Kay Roy leads the asthma service at University College London Hospitals where she is also the Trust clinical lead for Tobacco Dependency/Smoking Cessation and Sarcoidosis. As an integrated care physician, she works closely with primary care in the development of community services for asthma and COPD and treatment guidelines.

 

She is an author of the 2024 NICE guidelines for Asthma and other national leadership roles include being the Chair of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) Specialist Advisory Group on Lung Infections. Regionally, in North Central London, she is an active member of the Respiratory Network where she is a lead for Asthma and Chair of the Sustainability Forum.

Since being awarded a PhD on characterisation of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with training in clinical trials, Dr Roy has been the principal investigator on several multicentre trials and sits on 3 National Research Strategy Groups: Asthma, COPD and Acute Lung Infections.

As Honorary Associate Professor at University College London, Dr Roy has served on the postgraduate Masters (Respiratory medicine) faculty as a supervisor to several theses awarded at distinction level, and acting as an examiner for higher degree postgraduate studies. In addition to examining and supervising medical students and resident doctors at various stages of training, she has been a clinical supervisor for trainee GPs too.

Dr Roy has been a finalist for national awards from The British Thoracic Society, The Health Service Journal and The British Medical Journal, for her innovation and quality improvement work in respiratory medicine, as she strives to always deliver the best care for her patients.
