Medical interests: Interventional cardiology including coronary angiography and stent insertion. Heart failure of all causes. Conduction tissue disease and pacemaker implantation. Emergency cardiology and cardiovascular risk assessment.
I see patients who are affected by a wide variety of heart conditions and my particular expertise is in interventional cardiology. This includes coronary angiography, angioplasty/stent insertion, and pacemaker implantation. I also run a specialist multidisciplinary heart failure service. My main patient base is from the local area (London and Hampshire) but I do see patients from the rest of the UK and overseas. Expertise I have more than 20 years of experience as a general cardiologist running specialist heart failure, coronary disease and valve clinics. In my NHS department we see more than 12000 new out-patients per year with all types of cardiac conditions as well as many hundreds of in-patients with emergency needs. Reasons for assessment

Dr Carl Brookes is a medical graduate of Oxford University, who went on to pursue his clinical training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London. He then embarked on postgraduate specialist cardiology training at two major London teaching hospitals with a strong reputation in managing heart disease: the Royal Brompton Hospital and the Hammersmith Hospital. He holds a Doctor of Medicine research degree from Oxford in which he investigated the function of the right ventricle and, in particular, its relation to interventricular communication.
Dr Brookes was first appointed as Consultant Physician and Cardiologist in Hampshire in 2000. In 2005, he was Divisional Director of Emergency Services and in 2012, when the North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital merged, he became the Divisional Medical Director for Medical Services. The cardiology department he oversees treats 12000 new patients per annum and offers a full range of non-invasive and invasive cardiac investigations. This includes a 24/7 primary PCI (percutaneous intervention) service for patients having heart attacks. Dr Brookes is a member of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society, the British Cardiac Society and the British Society of Heart Failure. He is also an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians.
