Haematology

General Haematology, blood abnormalities, adult leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and myelodysplastic syndromes. Myeloproliferative disorders, Genetic Haemochromatosis.

I am a Consultant Haematologist, specialising in the study of blood (Haematology & Haemato-Oncology)

I trained at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London, and I have worked throughout the South East of England, including specialist training in Haematology at King’s College Hospital. Professionally, I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. I am an author of several textbook sections on Haematology, and I was Deputy Editor for the Journal of Medical Case Reports, an international medical journal. I have been a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission, and I have been involved in the Education and Training of new Haematologists via the London Deanery and the Royal College of Pathologists. I was Chair of the East Sussex Division of the British Medical Association. I founded and I was the Editor of the Haem Trainee magazine across the UK. I am a substantive Consultant Haematologist, Specialty Lead for Pathology, and Chief of Medicine at East Sussex
Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Eastbourne District General Hospital. I am the Clinical Lead for the Sussex Pathology Network.

Dr Joel Newman trained at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London, and undertook Specialist Haematology training through King’s College Hospital. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and the Royal College of Pathologists.
