About
Dr Mark Vanderpump has a busy private practice in diabetes and endocrinology within North, West and Central London. He supports in-patient services and participates within Multidisciplinary Teams at the Physicians' Clinic, BUPA Cromwell Hospital and Wellington Hospital. He liaises with London Neurosurgery Partnership, London Oncology Clinic and fertility services at the Lister Hospital and CRGH. He has published widely in his main area of expertise of thyroid disease but his clinical practice includes all aspects of diabetes and endocrinology.
Dr Vanderpump's clinical work involves caring for people within all aspects of diabetes and endocrinology. He has a special interest in people with thyroid conditions and participates in a thyroid multidisciplinary meeting twice a month to discuss individual cases. He also treats rare cases of thyroid disease in adolescent children. His other major interests in endocrinology include pituitary disorders and reproductive endocrinology, including treating women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Dr Vanderpump sees patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and is experienced in treating patients with diabetes who have kidney problems, including those on dialysis or who have had kidney transplants.
He also undertakes medico-legal work within his specialty.
He is regularly asked to contribute to publications and the media.
Medical training
Dr Mark Vanderpump qualified at the University of Birmingham Medical School before gaining experience in general medicine and specialising in diabetes and endocrinology through various training posts in the Midlands and North East England. He then started as a consultant at the North Middlesex Hospital NHS Trust in 1996. He was appointed as Consultant Endocrinologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust in 1999 and continued there until he resigned from the NHS in 2016 after 30 years of service in the NHS.
Current appointments
Dr Vanderpump has a special interest in thyroid disease and is a member of the British Thyroid Association, the European Thyroid Association and the American Thyroid Association. He was the President of the British Thyroid Association from 2014-2017 and a Trustee of the patient-support group in the British Thyroid Foundation from 2012-2017. He is an active member of the Society for Endocrinology and is a member of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists. He acts as a reviewer of original research submitted to prestigious journals in his field of medicine. He has published and lectured nationally and internationally in both diabetes and endocrinology. NHS practice
He has an Honorary Consultant contract at UCH to continue Joint Adolescent Thyroid Clinics.
