Two of our physicians at TPC, Professor Michael Hanna, Consultant Neurologist, and Dr Millicent Stone, Consultant Rheumatologist, successfully completed the 10K BUPA race in London last Sunday. Their effort was to raise money for the National Brain Appeal, which funds for research into neuromuscular diseases. Professor Hanna is Director of the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases, which is a major international focus for work in this area.
"My reason for running it was that my own daughter recovered successfully from a secondary brain tumour from neuroblastoma and this has encouraged me to run and support this charity in the hope that others with similar problems can continue to receive the best care possible," explained Dr Stone.
This year is the 30th anniversary of the National Brain Appeal and it is the sixth year that Professor Hanna has led a team of runners from the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases. Fourteen runners from the Centre also ran and their efforts will help fund the Operating Theatres Appeal for The National Hospital and training and research into diseases such as motor neuron disease, myasthenia gravis and muscular dystrophy. The Physicians' Clinic supported Professor Hanna and Dr Stone in their fantastic effort - further donations are welcome at the CNMD Team Just Giving page 2014.
