Dr Millicent Stone, Consultant Rheumatologist at The Physicians Clinic, is the first Rheumatologist to be appointed to a post dedicated to caring for patients with inflammatory eye diseases. Dr Stone was recently recruited to take on a new and unique role as Consultant Rheumatologist in The Medical Eye Unit at Guys and St Thomas Hospital (GSTT) and Moorfields Eye Hospital. She has an interest and previous training in inflammatory eye diseases. These conditions include:
- Wegeners Granulomatosis (GPA)
- Bechets disease
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Corneal eye disease due to Sjogrens Syndrome and dry eye syndrome
This bespoke role is the first of its kind internationally. Dr Stone will help look after patients with severe sight and life threatening inflammatory diseases who need immunosuppression to preserve their vision. To help facilitate the patient journey across these sites she has established the ‘I and U care program’ (inflammation and uveitis eye care) at GSTT and Moorfields Hospitals. The I and U care program involves close collaboration with the treating eye surgeons and multidisciplinary teams. Here at The Physicians’ Clinic would like to wish Dr Stone every success in her new role and we are very pleased to have her expertise in inflammatory eye disease as an extension to our services.
