The Physicians Clinic is pleased to announce Professor John Axford has been elected to the council of the Royal Medical Society. Between May and June RSM members were asked vote for their next Council member. There were eight candidates and Professor Axford was elected by means of majority vote.
John Axford said: "I am honoured to be elected as a member of the RSM Council. I have seen the Society evolve from a doctors' clinical forum to an organisation central to the clinical and scientific activities of its Fellows. I should like to continue to contribute to the RSM and help the Society achieve its goals in advancing multi-faceted educational resources for all healthcare professionals from undergraduate through to the retiree."
Professor Axford previously sat on the RSM Council between 2007 – 2011 and has been associated with the RSM since 1996, holding posts within the Clinical Immunology & Allergy Section, the Members' Services Committee, as an Honorary Secretary and as a Member of the President's Advisory Group. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Clinical Rheumatology at St George's, University of London and Director of The London Rheumatology Clinic.
Professor Axford will take up post on 1 October 2015 for a period of four years.
