Dr Christian Hasford joins The Physicians’ Clinic

April 02, 2013
The Physicians’ Clinic is pleased to welcome Dr Christian Hasford, Consultant in General Medicine and a specialist in Respiratory Medicine at University College London Hospitals. Dr Hasford has a special interest in combining conventional medicine with Integrated Medicine and offers holistic solutions for patients with complex health conditions. He is available on Thursdays and Saturdays and offers assessment of allergies and an integrated approach to allergy management.

Dr Hasford is an award winning medical educator

Earlier in March, Dr Hasford was given the Chairman’s Medal for Excellence in Education and Training by UCLH, an award that his has now received several years running. This year the award highlighted his continued role as 'an unstinting champion of excellent, high standard one-to-one teaching.' “I am passionate about teaching medicine,” says Dr Hasford. “I have a personal obsession to pass on characteristics that make good doctors superb. In the era of increasing sub-specialisation and hi-tech medicine, that means focusing on each patient as a person, respecting their views and being interested in their suffering as well as the medical aspects of their case,” he adds. The UCLH award highlights his achievements in passing on traditional medical values to the next generation, who need to be skilled in the ethical and social aspects of medicine as well as understanding the relevance and applications of the latest research. Dr Hasford’s teaching commitments at UCLH include:
  • Delivering lectures to medical students and junior doctors
  • Training junior doctors in the acute medical unit.
  • Leading junior case conference sessions in which medical students present cases of interest for discussion.
  • Holding morning report sessions for more advanced junior doctors to discuss cases.
  • Running a journal club for students combining their clinical training with research leading towards a PhD.
  • Providing more advanced training for mid- to late-grade junior doctors, casualty doctors and registrars.
Teaching is immensely rewarding and it’s in my blood, I suppose. I have several medical educators in my family and I am pleased to have continued the long tradition of passing on skills and knowledge assembled in over 30 years of practising medicine,” explains Dr Hasford. But there is one award that Dr Hasford is even more proud to have received. In addition to the institutional award given by UCLH, he has also been the recipient of an award for best teacher – given by the students themselves. “Getting the UCLH Gold Medal was a great honour but the student’s award, which I have also received several times, is even more important to me personally,” he says.
